Carolina, Puerto Rico – The Hofstra women's basketball team faced off against one of the top teams in the country and came away with a 95-38 defeat to #7 Maryland in the Pride's opener at the 2025 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout. Hofstra drops to 1-4 on the year, and the Terrapins improve to 9-0.
The Terrapins led wire-to-wire against the Pride from inside Coliseo Guillermo Angulo, scoring the first 10 points of the contest before
Sana'a Garrett got Hofstra on the board at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter.
Olivia VanPatten paced Hofstra in scoring with eight points against Maryland and she finished with three rebounds.
Ema Karim finished the game with three assists, and
Alarice Gooden forced two takeaways to go with her six points.
For the Terrapins, Kaylene Smikle led all players with 13 points, and Ava McKennie was the top rebounder with five.
Hofstra returns to Coliseo Guillermo Angulo on Friday, November 28, at 12:30 p.m. (ET)/1:30 p.m. (AT) against East Carolina. The game will be streamed on FloCollege.

-This was the first-ever meeting in women's basketball between Hofstra and Maryland.
-This was Hofstra's first contest against an opponent ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 since November 27, 2015, against #7 Oregon State.
