Hofstra Powers Past William & Mary

Williamsburg, VA – The Hofstra field hockey team moved one step closer to qualifying for the 2025 CAA Championship with a convincing 2-0 road win over William & Mary from Busch Field in league play.
 
Hofstra is now 8-8 overall and 1-3 in the CAA following Friday's road win, and the Tribe fall to 1-13 overall and 0-4 against conference opponents.
 
The Pride struck first with 5:47 left in the second quarter off a shot from an unmarked Kelly Levengood, who beat William & Mary goalkeeper Alexandra de Jesus past her left blocker after receiving a centering pass from Gwenn van Dijk for her fourth goal of the season. Hofstra doubled its lead in the fourth quarter after Pilar Penaloza pounced on a Tribe turnover, and the senior forward sent a driven pass to Jaime Lewis, who swept in her sixth goal of the season at the back post with 4:55 left in regulation to clinch the win.
 
Luci Hollister earned her second shutout win of the season with six saves against the Tribe.
 
Hofstra wraps up its 2025 regular season campaign next Friday, October 31, at 3 p.m. against Towson. The game will air on FloCollege and MSG Network.
 
NOTES:
-This is Hofstra's third consecutive win over William & Mary and third consecutive shutout of the Tribe. The Pride improves to 10-17 all-time against William & Mary.
-Hofstra held an 18-12 advantage in shots and a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
-van Dijk is now up to nine assists on the season, second-most in the CAA.
-Jamie Mc Millan led all players with six shots in the game, all on goal.
