Clara Bal had 13 kills to lead a balanced scoring attack as the Hofstra volleyball team won its seventh consecutive match with a sweep of Rider on Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium. The match was the Pride's final non-conference contest of the season.
The seven straight wins have all come in sweeps. It is the longest win streak without dropping a set since 2002. In addition, with the win Hofstra completes a perfect 7-0 month of October. It is the Pride's first perfect month since going 4-0 in August of 2016. It is the most wins in a month without a loss since going 8-0 in October of 2005.
Hofstra moved to 16-2 overall with the win, while Rider dropped to 8-12 with the loss. Set scores were 25-22, 25-9, and 25-14.
Hofstra continued its dominant defense as the Pride, which ranks first in the nation in opponent hitting percentage, held Rider to a .097 hitting percentage for the match. The Broncs hit a negative .120 in the second set before Hofstra held Rider to a .032 attack percentage in the third stanza.
Izadora Stedile posted 11 kills and 10 digs in the match, while
Constanza Perez Sain added eight kills, four service aces, three digs, and two blocks.
Nil Kayaalp had a match-high 15 digs and
Nina Jioshvili-Ravva posted 38 assists, four digs, and three service aces.
Kiannisha Santiago had seven kills to lead Rider, which also got five kills and three digs from Rylah Robinson.
Hofstra has a break until its next match as the Pride will next be in action on Saturday, November 1 when they travel to North Carolina A&T for a 4 p.m. match.
NOTES
- Hofstra improved to a perfect 17-0 all-time against Rider. Today marked the Pride's second match against the Broncs this season, having defeated them in four sets back on September 6.
- Bal led Hofstra in kills for the fourth time this season. Kayaalp led Hofstra in digs for the 13th time this year.
- Stedile tallied her team-leading 11th double-double of the season.
