Karoff’s Hat-trick Leads Hofstra in Convincing Victory

Hempstead, NY – Teresa Karoff had a game to remember, scoring a hat-trick while assisting once for four points, as the Hofstra field hockey team routed New Haven 7-0 from a packed Cindy Lewis Stadium on Alumni Day.

Hofstra improves to 7-8 with the win, and New Haven drops to 0-12 on the season.

Karoff's hat-trick is the first in Hofstra field hockey history since Cami Larsson achieved the feat against Bryant on September 20, 2019.

Hofstra's scoring started 2:19 into the game as Karoff ripped her shot from the top of the arc through the legs of the New Haven goalie, and Jamie Mc Millan finished off pass from Karoff at the far post for the 2-0 lead going into the second quarter. Jaime Lewis scored both of the Pride's goals in the second quarter to double the lead over the Chargers to 4-0 at halftime.

Karoff bagged her second goal of the contest 2:36 into the third quarter on a rebounded shot by Lewis, before Kelly Levengood tapped home an aerial pass by Kalyn Fluker with a player down and just minutes after Karoff's goal, and Karoff's third and final tally of the afternoon on a redirection of a Gwenn van Dijk shot with 5:16 left on the clock gave Hofstra the 7-0 advantage.

van Dijk and Riley MacIntosh both finished the game with two assists, while Fluker, Karoff, Mc Millan, Caitlin Lozano, and Kesia Richardson all registered assists against the Chargers. Luci Hollister played the entire first half and didn't see a single shot on goal, and Tessa Lambright made one save in the second half.

Hofstra resumes CAA play on Friday, October 24, on the road against William & Mary at 3:30 p.m.
