Coastal Carolina Slips By Hofstra In Four Sets

Charlottesville, VA - Izadora Stedile led Hofstra with 15 kills, while Beatriz Braga tallied her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 15 digs in Hofstra's four-set defeat to Coastal Carolina on Friday afternoon at the Cavalier Classic at Memorial Gymnasium. 

Hofstra dropped to 2-2 with the loss, while Coastal Carolina improved to 1-3. Set scores were 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-22 in favor of Coastal Carolina. 

Clara Bal was also in double figures for the Pride with 10 kills, while Chiara Cucco posted 15 digs in the contest. 

The teams split the first two sets with Hofstra having a strong offensive showing in both sets. The Pride hit at a .387 clip in the first set before adding a .275 attack percentage in the second stanza. 

Two more close sets followed with Coastal Carolina earning three point wins in both to take the contest. 

The Pride split the setting duties in the match with Ellie Pamatat seeing her first-ever collegiate action and dishing out 25 assists, while Mairi Hadjipetrou added career-bests of 16 assists and six digs. 

Jaylyn Stout had 20 kills, 17 assists, and 14 digs for Coastal Carolina, which also got 12 kills from Agata Lesiak and Emily Fowler. 

Hofstra will play the second of its two matches at the Cavalier Classic on Saturday when it takes on Virginia at 12 p.m. That match will air on ACCNX.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 1-1 all-time against Coastal Carolina. This was the first meeting between the teams since 2000. 
- Cucco is closing in on seventh place all-time in digs at Hofstra as she now has 1,408 and is four away from Ines Portuondo (1988-90). 
- Stedile has reached double figures in kills in three consecutive matches. 
- Emilly Nunes had five kills with no errors in the match and for the season now has 25 kills on 39 attempts with just one error.
