Baker's Late Goal Not Enough As No. 12 Hofstra Falls At Monmouth

West Long Branch, NJ - Teddy Baker's late goal cut the Hofstra deficit to one, but the Hawks did not allow a chance for the equalizer in a 2-1 Coastal Athletic Association victory Saturday night at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn.

Hofstra, ranked No. 12 in the nation, suffered its first loss of the season and saw its six-game winning streak halted in falling to 6-1-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the CAA. Monmouth moves to 4-0-4 on the season and 1-0-2 in league play.

The Hawks scored a goal at 33:28 off the right foot of Bastian Hatcher with Viktor Andersson collecting the assist. Monmouth doubled the lead 7:46 into the second half off a corner kick when Sean Cadigan headed in the kick from Erik Reis just under the crossbar.

The score remained that way until Baker notched his first of the season with 37 seconds to go. The Hawks were whistled for a foul just outside of the 18-yard box and Baker sent a low liner past Monmouth keeper Eryk Dymora into the lower right corner.

Dymora finished with three saves for the Hawks, while Filippo Dadone made four saves for the Pride.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday with a non-conference road game at Loyola Maryland. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 6-1-1 all-time versus Monmouth.
-The two goals allowed matched a season-high.
-Baker's goal was the 32nd of his career.
