Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra field hockey team began its 2024 Coastal Athletic Association campaign on Friday with a 7-0 defeat to Monmouth from Cindy Lewis Stadium.
The defeat snaps Hofstra's two-game winning streak and puts the Pride's record at 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the league. For Monmouth, the win improves the Hawks to 5-1 and 1-0 in the CAA.
Monmouth scored the first two goals within the opening 10 minutes of the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead, and the lead doubled with another pair of goals in the second quarter. The Hawks added a fifth goal in the third quarter before scoring the final two goals of the game in the fourth quarter.
Hofstra's best quarter of the game came in the second, with five of the team's 10 total shots and three of the Pride's four shots on goal came before halftime.
Tara McNally finished with two shots – both on goal – while Julia Böcker registered a pair of shots against the Hawks.
Pieke Roos tallied three saves in 24:11 between the posts, and
Tessa Lambright made four saves in 35:49 of action.
Hofstra heads to Staten Island on Sunday to take on Wagner. The opening whistle is scheduled for 1 p.m.
NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 6-7 all-time against Monmouth. The Hawks have won all three meetings against the Pride since joining the CAA in 2022.
-Monmouth outshot Hofstra 25-10 and held a 13-7 advantage in penalty corners.
