Clara Bal had 12 kills and
Izadora Stedile added 10 kills and 11 digs for the Hofstra volleyball team in the Pride's four-set loss to West Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Gymnasium. The match was the Pride's final one at the Wake Forest Invitational.
The loss was the first of the season for Hofstra, which dropped to 2-1 this year. West Virginia upped its record to 2-1 with the victory. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 25-16, and 26-24 in favor of West Virginia.
After dropping two tight sets, the Pride responded in the third set and easily dispatched of West Virginia using a .321 attack percentage. The final set went the distance and more before West Virginia was able to put away the Pride in "extra time".
The duo of
Iyanna Garvin and
Emilly Nunes had a strong match as they combined for 15 kills with no hitting errors and nine blocks. Garvin had seven kills and four blocks, while Nunes posted eight kills and five blocks.
Beatriz Alves added 35 assists and nine digs for the Pride.
Cassidy Tanton posted 18 kills and 10 digs for West Virginia, which also got 35 assists and 14 digs from Alexis Finnvold.
Hofstra is back in action on Friday, September 6 when it heads to the Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia. The Pride will face Coastal Carolina on Friday at 12 p.m. and then take on the host on Saturday at 12 p.m.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 4-3 all-time against West Virginia. Today marked the first meeting between the programs since 1992.

Chiara Cucco had 24 digs in the match and has increased her dig total in each of the Pride's first three matches this season.
- Stedile had her first double-double of the season.
- Bal reached double figures in kills for the first time this season.
