Izadora Stedile continued her strong start to the season as she posted a match-high 11 kills and added eight digs to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a four-set win over Navy on Saturday afternoon at the Wake Forest Invitational in Reynolds Gym.
The win moved the Pride to 2-0 on the season, while Navy dropped to 0-2. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 25-18, and 25-14.
Constanza Perez Sain saw her first action as a member of the Pride in the match and tallied nine kills and eight service aces. It is the most service aces in a match for a Hofstra player since Harmonie Calinda had eight against UNCW on November 4, 2007. It is also the most by a CAA player since Naiya Sawtelle of North Carolina A&T had eight against Lindenwood on September 3, 2022.
It was more strong defense for the Pride in this match as Hofstra held Navy below .100 in two of the four sets, including a .029 hitting percentage in the third set. After taking the lead with their defense in the third set, Hofstra left no doubt in the fourth and final stanza as the Pride hit at a .345 clip with 11 kills on 29 attempts and only one error in cruising to the win.
Chiara Cucco led all players in the match with 19 digs, while
Beatriz Alves tallied 39 assists and 14 digs.
Beatriz Braga added eight kills and eight digs.
Emilly Nunes notched a team-best four blocks.
Ava Toppin had seven kills, three digs, and three blocks for Navy, which also got 14 assists and 11 digs from Arleigh Hanson.
Hofstra closes play at the Wake Forest Invitational on Sunday when it faces West Virginia at 12 p.m.
NOTES
- Today marked the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and Navy in volleyball.
- Cucco moved into eighth place all-time in digs at Hofstra. She now has 1,369 career digs and moved past Stefanie Rewitz, who tallied 1,361 digs from 1999-2002.
- Hofstra is 2-0 to start a season for the second consecutive year and for the third time in the past five seasons.
