No. 17 Hofstra and Fordham Play Scoreless Draw On Opening Night

Hempstead, NY - Filippo Dadone made five saves, including two in a row on a flurry in front of the net, as No. 17 Hofstra and Fordham played to a scoreless draw Thursday night in the season opener for both teams at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The game was the season opener for both teams.

In the 70th minute, Fordham had by far their best scoring chances of the game as Luke Pompliano received a pass on the doorstep. His first shot was stopped by Dadone but rebounded right back to the Rams striker. However, Dadone was able to stop the second attempt as well before the ball was cleared by All-America defender Pierce Infuso.

Fordham keeper Carter Abbott also turned in a strong outing with four saves. One of his first saves was the best scoring opportunity for the Pride as Roc Carles sent a low shot in from outside the box that Abbott got a piece of before the ball bounced up and ricocheted off the crossbar. Jacob Woznicki had the Pride's best second half scoring chance in the 63rd minute, but his header off a long throw from Eoin Farrell was stopped by Abbot.

Hofstra returns to action Sunday at American with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
