Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra softball team enters the 2024 CAA Softball Championship aiming for its 22nd conference title and 14th CAA trophy as the #6 seed, and the Pride will begin its title defense at 2:30 p.m. against Stony Brook, the #3 seed in the six-team, double-elimination tournament. Every game of the CAA Championship from Boseman Field in Wilmington, North Carolina will be streamed live on FloSoftball, and there will be live statistics of every game as well.
21-24 and 17-10 in the CAA to end the regular season, Hofstra is looking to bring the championship trophy back to Hempstead after winning last season's title on home turf. Winners of five of the last six CAA contests to the end the season, the Pride are led by Becca Vaillancourt with 52 hits, 30 RBIs, nine home runs, and a .362 batting average, while Chelsea Manto sits at a .310 batting average and 40 hits with a team-leading 18 stolen bases entering the postseason, and Julia Apsel has been the Blue and Gold's top pitcher with 17 wins as she leads the CAA with 152 strikeouts and a 1.48 ERA.
Stony Brook enters it second CAA Championship as the #3 seed after 34-15 and 19-8 against league opponents during the regular season. Stony Brook boasts four players hitting over .300 on the year, highlighted by Kyra McFarland at .392 with 65 hits and 19 RBIs plus 13 stolen bases. Catherine Anne Kupinski is next on the roster with a .372 average on 55 hits, and she leads the team with 43 RBIs and eight home runs. In the circle, Mia Hynes has 13 wins, 139 strikeouts, and an ERA of 2.80.
Wednesday marks the fourth time the teams will meet this season, and the second consecutive season that the Pride opens its CAA Championship against Stony Brook. The Seawolves swept all three games in this season's series against Hofstra, snapping a run of five consecutive Hofstra wins. Hofstra leads the all-time series with a 21-11 record against Stony Brook.
