O'Hanlon Pitches Gem; Hofstra Holds Off Stony Brook To Open Series

Stony Brook, NY - Michael O'Hanlon twirled a gem and Steve Harrington, Penn Sealey, and Dylan Palmer delivered RBIs as Hofstra opened up a key Coastal Athletic Association series with a 3-0 victory over Stony Brook Friday at Joe Nathan Field. The win was Hofstra's fifth in a row.

The Pride moved to 19-27 overall and 9-10 in the CAA with the victory, while the Seawolves dropped to 22-21 overall and 10-9 in league action.

O'Hanlon allowed just four hits and a walk over 8 â…“ innings. The senior, who is in his first season as a starter, struck out eight batters in the 114-pitch outing and was charged with two runs.

Harrington gave the Pride all the offense it would need in the fourth inning as he launched his fourth home run of the season and 20th of his career off the scoreboard in right center for a 1-0 lead. Hofstra would add another run in the frame on Sealey's RBI single. Palmer grounded out in the seventh to score a run from third to cap the Hofstra scoring.

O'Hanlon (5-3) got the first out in the ninth before allowing a single and a double to put runners on second and third. That prompted a call to the bullpen and closer Mike McKenna came on. He allowed a sacrifice fly to Johnny Pilla and an RBI single to Matt Miceli before getting a fly out to left that ended the game. The save was McKenna's eighth of the season.

Michael Florides had three hits for the Pride, while Will Kennedy and Matt Pelcher each had two hits.

Colin Rhein (3-3) took the loss for Stony Brook, allowing three runs on seven hits over seven innings of work.

The teams continue the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
