Hofstra Falls In Series Finale At UNCW

Wilmington, NC - Alex McCoy homered and Penn Sealey added a two-run double, but Jac Croom homered twice and John Newton added three hits and four RBIs as UNCW picked up a 14-3 victory in the rubber game of a Coastal Athletic Association series at Brooks Field Sunday.

UNCW improved to 35-17 on the season and 19-5 in CAA play with the win. Hofstra dropped to 21-30 overall and 11-13 in league action.

The Seahawks scored three times in the second inning with Newton getting things started with a solo home run. Aiden Evans drew a bases loaded walk and Tanner Thach had an RBI groundout.

McCoy made it a two-run game in the fourth as he led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. However, UNCW answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning and then added four more in the fifth to extend to a 12-1 lead. The Pride would get two runs back in the sixth on Sealey's double before UNCW tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to close the scoring.

Tanner Sanderoff (2-2) took the loss for Hofstra, allowing five runs on four hits in three innings. UNCW reliever Baker Cox (2-0) was credited with the win. He allowed two runs (0 earned) on two hits in 1 ⅓ innings of work.
