John Madsen had his sixth hat trick of the season with four goals and one assist and the Hofstra men's lacrosse team had a spirited second half before dropping a 15-11 decision to #20 Towson on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.
Griffin Turner tied for game-high honors with six points on two goals and four assists to contribute to the Pride's efforts. The six points tied Turner's career-high.
Hofstra sees its record fall to 4-7 and 1-3 in CAA play. Towson improved to 8-3 and 4-0 in the league.
Down 2-0 early, Hofstra would get three straight goals in the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead with 5:30 left in the opening stanza. Madsen got the Pride on the board and the other goals came from
Colton Rudd and
Trevor Natalie.
Towson would then erupt for 10 consecutive goals to open up a commanding 12-3 lead nearing the end of the first half. A goal from Turner in the third quarter ended the Tiger run and the spirited second half from the Pride would see Hofstra score seven of the final eight goals in the contest. Madsen scored three times during the game-closing 7-1 run and Turner posted three of his assists during that time.
Justin Sykes posted three points on two goals and one assist, while
Anthony Mollica added a goal and an assist for the Pride.
Blake Cooling tallied four ground balls and three caused turnovers for Hofstra.
Sean Henderson made 11 saves for Hofstra, while
Chase Patterson was 14-28 on face-offs with a team-high 10 ground balls.
Chop Gallagher had six points on three goals and three assists for Towson, while Joaquin Villagomez had five points on three goals and two assists. Luke Downs made 12 saves in net for the Tigers.
