O'Hanlon Throws Gem, But Delaware Rallies Late To Take Opener

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra starter Michael O'Hanlon was outstanding, allowing a run on three hits with a career-high 11 strikeouts over 7+ innings, but Delaware rallied in the eighth inning and went on to post an 8-4 victory over the Pride Friday afternoon at University Field in the opening game of a Coastal Athletic Association series.

The Pride dropped to 10-18 overall and 2-5 in the CAA with the loss, while the Blue Hens improved to 14-13 overall and 4-3 in league play.

O'Hanlon had at least one strikeout in each of his seven innings and struck out the side in the fourth. He allowed three singles and walked two batters in a 90-pitch performance. Leading 1-0 after a second inning RBI single from Dylan Palmer, O'Hanlon was removed after walking the leadoff batter to start the eighth. Mike McKenna (1-1) came on and the Hofstra closer was greeted by a double from Aiden Stewart that allowed pinch runner Jake Dunion to score the tying run. Eric Ludman followed with an RBI single and the Blue Hens would tack on four more runs in the frame to take a 6-1 lead.

Hofstra battled back in its turn at bat, loading the bases on two singles and a walk before Will Kennedy drove in two runs with a single to make it a 6-3 game. The Pride would load the bases again, but would not score again in the inning. Delaware would push two more runs across in the ninth before Alex McCoy led off the Hofstra ninth with a home run to cap the scoring.

Kennedy, McCoy, and Steve Harrington each had a pair of hits on the day for the Pride.

Delaware reliever Tyler August (2-3) earned the win, tossing five shutout innings. The freshman allowed three hits and struck out three. Stewart had two hits and two runs scores, while Andrew Amato had two hits and three RBIs.

The series continues Saturday at 1 p.m.
