Pride Drops Final Non-Conference Game To Rutgers

Piscataway, NJ - Melissa Sconone had three points on two goals and one assist but it was not enough as the Hofstra women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-8 decision to Rutgers on Wednesday evening at SHI Stadium. The game was delayed approximately an hour due to the weather. 

Kristen Redding chipped in with a a pair of goals for the Pride in the contest. 

Hofstra saw its four-game win streak come to an end as the Pride dropped to 7-5 overall. Rutgers improved to 6-6 with the win. 

Sconone scored the Pride's first goal of the game late in the first quarter after Rutgers opened up the game with a 6-0 scoring run. The lead for the Scarlet Knights grew to 10-1 in the second quarter before Lauren Coletti ended the run with a Pride tally. 

Sconone then keyed a second half run that saw the Pride score six of the final seven goals in the game to account for the final margin. 

Nikki Mennella and Coletti each finished with a goal and an assist for Hofstra, which got a season-high-tying five ground balls from Christine Dannenfelser and four draw controls and three caused turnovers from Trinity Reed

Cassidy Spilis led Rutgers with five goals. 

Hofstra goalie Luchianna Cardello had 10 saves for the Pride, while her sister Sophia Cardello posted 10 saves for the Scarlet Knights.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 11-25 all-time against Rutgers. Tonight's game was the first meeting between the teams since 2016. 
- Reed's three caused turnovers marked a new season-high. She previously had two on a pair of occasions. 
- Dannenfelser's five ground balls tied her season-high set against William & Mary. 
- Julia West tallied her first career goal in the third quarter.
