Hempstead, NY - Led by five goals from
Kerry Walser, four different Pride players tallied hat tricks as the Hofstra women's lacrosse team led wire-to-wire in a 22-7 victory over Monmouth on Friday evening at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The 22 goals were the most for Hofstra since a 23-7 victory over George Mason on April 8, 2012.
More importantly, the victory moved the Pride to 5-0 in CAA play and 8-5 overall. Monmouth dropped to 5-8 and 1-5 in league action.
Joining Walser with hat tricks were
Nikki Mennella (4),
Taylor Mennella (4), and
Melissa Sconone (3).
Hofstra led 7-0 after 15 minutes of play as
Taylor Mennella led the way in the first quarter, finishing up her hat trick with 5:29 left in the opening stanza. The Pride took its first 10-goal lead of the contest on a free-position goal from
Nikki Mennella with 5:39 left in the second quarter.
Walser tallied three of her goals during a 4-0 Pride run in the third quarter that pushed the advantage to 19-5. The fourth quarter would see Hofstra score three of the final four goals in the contest, including the first goal of the season for
Grace Pupke.
Sconone added five assists for an eight-point day, while Walser added two assists for a seven-point game. The Mennella sisters each had six points on four goals and two assists. Walser led Hofstra with seven draw controls, while
Luchianna Cardello made five saves in net.
Mya Brock had three goals for Monmouth, while Caroline Brennan had two goals and an assist for the Hawks.
Hofstra will conclude the weekend with an important road game at Delaware on Sunday. Opening draw control is scheduled for 12 p.m. The game will air on FloLive.
NOTES
- Today was only the second-ever meeting between Hofstra and Monmouth and the Pride evened the series at one apiece. The first meeting occurred last season, Monmouth's first in the CAA.

Nikki Mennella's fifth this season (ninth of career), and Sconone's fifth this season (sixth of career).
