Hofstra Dumps North Carolina A&T To Complete Series Sweep

Hempstead, NY - Luke Masiuk had a three-run double and Alex McCoy added a two-run single in a five-run fourth inning as Hofstra broke open a close game and went on to a 10-4 victory over North Carolina A&T Sunday afternoon at University Field. The win gave the Pride a sweep of their Coastal Athletic Association series and vaulted the team back into serious contention for a CAA Championship berth with three weekends remaining in the regular season.

Hofstra improved to 17-27 overall and 8-10 in league play. The Aggies dipped below the .500 mark at 21-22 and are 5-13 in the CAA.

The Pride scored single runs in the second and third innings on an RBI double from Matt Pelcher and a single from Santino Rosso, respectively. In the fourth, the Pride loaded the bases before Masiuk cleared them with a double off the 30-foot high centerfield fence. That made the score 5-0 and after loading the bases once again, McCoy dropped a single into right field that allowed two more runners to score for a 7-0 advantage.

The Aggies got three runs back in the fifth on an Ellis Reid double and a two-run home run from Tatsunori Negishi. But the Pride would answer in the bottom with two more runs on Dylan Palmer's two-RBI single and then added a run in the sixth on Will Kennedy's single. North Carolina A&T would close the scoring in the eighth with an RBI single from TJ Ash.

Tanner Sanderoff (2-0) started for the Pride and allowed three runs on three hits over five innings. Russell Hunter allowed a run over three innings, while Danny Kelleher pitched a scoreless ninth.

Evan Hart (3-1) started for the Aggies and allowed a run on one hit in two innings to take the loss. North Carolina A&T would use six pitchers in the game.

Pelcher was 3-3 on the day with two runs and an RBI, while Palmer, Rosso, and Kennedy each had two hits on the day.

Hofstra is back in action Wednesday at Seton Hall with a 4 p.m. start.
