Hummel Leads Hofstra During First Round of CAA Championship

Saint Helena Island, SC - Jaxon Hummel shot a low 74 (+2) to lead the Hofstra men's golf team during the first round of the Coastal Athletic Championship from the Dataw Island Club's Cotton Dike Course in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina, on Sunday. As a team, Hofstra is tied with Towson for tenth at 305 (+17) after the first round.

Reigning champion UNCW leads at 272 (-16), while Elon sits just two strokes behind. There is a three-way tie for first at 66 (-6) between Sander Akeren & Gray Mitchum from UNCW and Charleston's Kieron van Wyk. 

Hofstra opened the championship with Vincent Apostolico hitting the opening shot of the tournament en route to a first round score of 78 (+6). Hummel shot a first round 74 (+2) to tie for 28th in the 55-player field. Eugene Kang tied for 38th after a first round 75 (+3). Joseph Giamanco and Apostolico both shot a first round 78 (+6) to tie for 47th, while Taishi Shigaki is tied for 53rd after a first round 84 (+12).

The second round of the CAA Championship gets underway Monday at 8:30 a.m.
