Hofstra Rallies Past Campbell In 10 Innings

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra scored two runs in the bottom of the 10th inning, with Santino Rosso's sacrifice fly the difference, as the Pride rallied to defeat Campbell, 12-11, Sunday at University Field. The victory gave the Pride the Coastal Athletic Association win over the Camels. Hofstra erased a fifth inning 10-5 deficit to earn their second walk-off victory of the season.

Hofstra moved to 14-25 overall and 5-10 in the CAA with the win. Campbell dipped to 25-13 overall and 7-8 in league play.

The Pride took a 2-0 lead in the first as Alex McCoy drove in Dylan Palmer with an infield hit and a throwing error on the play allowed Luke Masiuk to score as well. Hofstra starter Tanner Sanderoff cruised through the first two innings, striking out five of the six batters he faced.

However, the Camels got to Sanderoff in the third, scoring six runs before he exited with two outs in the frame to take a 6-2 lead. Hofstra would cut the deficit to three in their turn at-bat as Steve Harrington singled home Masiuk, who had doubled.

Campbell scored three runs in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead before Matt Pelcher and Palmer had RBI singles in the bottom half to make it a 9-5 game. Campbell tacked on a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Dylan Koontz to go up by a 10-5 margin.

Rosso sparked the Pride in the sixth with a three-run home run, and Danny Kelleher, Mike McKenna, and Russell Hunter kept the Camels off the board in the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings to keep Hofstra within striking distance going into their final turn at bat during regulation.

Reliever Packy Bradley-Cooney started the ninth by getting the first two outs before allowing a solo home run to Harrington. After hitting Alex McCoy and seeing him steal second, Bradley-Cooney allowed an RBI single to pinch hitter Will Kennedy that tied the game at 10.

Hunter retired the first batter he faced in the 10th before allowing a single, a double, and a sacrifice fly that gave Campbell the lead, 11-10. The Camels would load the bases before Hunter got an infield pop up to escape further damage.

That set the stage for the Pride comeback. New pitcher Drew Siegner hit Michael Florides with one out and pinch runner Nick LoBello was able to score on Palmer's double down the right field line. Masiuk followed with a single to put runners on the corners. That forced a pitching change as Will Palmer came in to face Rosso, who lifted the first pitch he saw to shallow center field that allowed Dylan Palmer to score the winning run.

Hunter (2-0) picked up the win after allowing a run on three hits in two innings of work. Rosso drove in four runs on the day, while Dylan Palmer and Masiuk each collected three hits. Harrington and Florides each had two hits.

Siegner (3-2) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 1/3 of an inning. Lawson Harrill and Ross Stallman each drove in three runs for the Camels.

Hofstra returns to action Tuesday night at NJIT. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
