Hofstra Drops Series Game Two To Campbell

Hempstead, NY - Dylan Palmer and Luke Masiuk each had two hits and drove in a run, while Alex McCoy homered but Campbell broke a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning and added an insurance run in the ninth for a 7-5 victory over Hofstra Saturday at University Field. The win evened the Coastal Athletic Association series at one game apiece going into Sunday's finale.

Hofstra slipped to 13-25 overall and 4-10 in the CAA with the loss. Campbell is 25-12 overall and 7-7 in league action. 

Hofstra jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings with Palmer scoring on a Santino Rosso single in the first and Palmer and Masiuk driving in runs in the second. The Camels would get a run back in the third on Charlie Meglio's home run and then added one more run in the fourth on a Dalen Thompson home run. Campbell would take a 5-3 lead in the fifth on a bases loaded walk and a two-run double from Lawson Harrill.

Hofstra tied the score in the sixth as McCoy his his ninth home of the season to lead off the frame and Michael Florides drove in a run with a ground out to knot the game at five.

Campbell loaded the bases in the seventh and Reed Stallman drove in the go ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Then in the ninth, Dylan Koontz led off with a solo home run to give the Camels a two-run cushion. 

Palmer led off the ninth with an infield single and stole second, but was stranded there to end the game. Reliever Ryan McLaughlin (1-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 3 ⅔ innings. 

Reliever Jeremy Wiegman (2-2) pitched two scoreless innings to get the win, while Packy Bradley-Cooney went the final two innings to notch his fourth save. 

The teams conclude the series Sunday morning at 11 a.m. 

Notes:
-Hofstra is 1-1 all-time versus Campbell.
-The Pride had 10 hits.
-Hofstra starter Carlos Martinez was ejected in the third inning.
-Campbell's Derek Vartanian was ejected in the fifth inning.
