Big Inning Propels Hofstra Past Campbell In Series Opener

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra used a seven-run fifth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit and went on to defeat Campbell, 11-7, in a Coastal Athletic Association game at University Field Friday afternoon. Steve Harrington and Joseph Mennella homered in the inning and Luke Masiuk's two-run double put the Pride ahead to stay.

Hofstra picked up its second straight win and improved to 13-24 overall and 4-9 in CAA play with the win. Campbell dropped to 24-12 overall and 6-7 in the CAA with the loss.

The Camels scored two runs in the third on a solo home run from Braeden O'Shaughnessy and an RBI single from Dalen Thompson. Lawson Harrill made it a 3-0 game in the top of the fifth with a solo home run.

Campbell starter Cole Peschl cruised through the first four innings without allowing a baserunner. But Harrington led off the bottom of the fifth with his second home run of the season. Three batters later, Mennella hit his third home run in as many games with a two-run shot that tied the game at three. Michael Florides and Dylan Palmer later came through with two-out singles and both came around on a double to left by Masiuk for a 5-3 lead. Santino Rosso followed with an RBI double to center and Harrington added his second RBI hit of the inning, a run-scoring single that made it 7-3.
