Luchianna Cardello made a season-high 11 saves, while
Taylor Mennella and
Kerry Walser each tallied four goals to lead the Hofstra women's lacrosse team to a 14-10 victory over Marist on Friday afternoon at Tenney Stadium.
Taylor Mennella added an assist to lead the Pride with five points on the day.
The win is Hofstra's second straight and improved the Pride's record to 3-3 this season. Marist dropped to 0-5 with the loss.
Walser opened up the scoring with a pair of early goals to make it 2-0 and she would add another goal later in the quarter to make it 5-2 and give Walser a very early hat trick. The Pride would take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break as
Emily Weigand and
Kristen Redding scored in the second quarter for Hofstra to give them a four-goal cushion.
It was all Hofstra to begin the third quarter as the Pride opened up the second stanza with four straight goals to take a commanding 11-3 lead with 2:42 left in the quarter. Walser got her fourth of the game to get the run started and
Taylor Mennella also added a pair during the spurt.
Hofstra was never seriously challenged in the fourth quarter as they would go on to capture the road victory and even their record on the year.
Nikki Mennella had four points on two goals and two assists, while
Melissa Sconone (1 G, 2 A), Redding (1 G, 2 A), and Weigand (2 G) all had multiple points for the Pride.
Kerri Gutenberger led Marist with four goals, while Kelly Trotta added three goals.
Hofstra is back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Connecticut for a 3 p.m. contest.
NOTES
- Hofstra is now 5-1 all-time against Marist.
- Cardello's previous season-high was nine saves, most recently against Fairfield.
- The hat trick was the third this season for
Taylor Mennella and the 16th of her career. It was Walser's second hat trick this season and ninth of her career.
- With her four goals and five points today,
Taylor Mennella inched closer to 100 career goals as she now has 97. Her 149 points moved her into 11th place in program history.
- The two-goal game by Weigand was the first multi-goal game of her career.
