Message Sent; Pride Dominates Tigers To Move To 4-0 In CAA

Towson, MD - Led by four goals each from Melissa Sconone and Kerry Walser, the Hofstra women's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish as the Pride captured a 15-8 win over Towson on Saturday afternoon at Johnny Unitas® Stadium.

Sconone finished with six points in the game, while Nikki Mennella returned to the lineup and tallied five points (3 G, 2 A). Taylor Mennella added four points on two goals and two assists.

The win was Hofstra's fourth straight and improved the Pride's record to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in CAA action. Towson slipped to 5-6 and 2-2 in the league.

The Pride had a pair of milestones in the contest as Walser reached 100 career points. She now has 101 and is the 21st member of the 100-Point Club at Hofstra. Luchianna Cardello, who tallied nine saves in the game, went over 200 saves for her career in the contest. She now has 201.

Hofstra took a 2-1 lead as Walser and Nikki Mennella scored in the first quarter. After Towson evened the score, Nikki Mennella would score her second of the game with just 20 seconds left in the opening stanza to put the Pride back in front, 3-2.

That goal would kick-start a game-changing 6-0 Pride run that put Hofstra in front, 8-2, with 9:03 left before halftime. The Pride had four different goal scorers during the run with Nikki Mennella and Walser each tallying a pair. Hofstra would eventually take a 9-4 lead at the break.

There were only three goals scored in the third quarter with the Pride accounting for two of them as Kristen Redding and Sconone found the back of the net to make it 11-5 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Hofstra left no doubt in the final quarter as the Pride scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter and four of the first five to push the lead to nine goals, 15-6, after Lauren Coletti scored with 4:31 left.

Coletti and Redding each chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Pride. Walser added a game-high seven draw controls, while Brynn Hepting picked up a career-high-tying four ground balls.

Lindsey Marshall had five goals for Towson, which also got a goal and two assists from Milana Zizakovic. Jo Torres made nine saves for the Tigers.

The Pride has only one game on the schedule this week as Hofstra steps out of CAA play and will travel to Rutgers on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference contest.
