Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra women's lacrosse team closed a spectacular weekend with another dominating win as the duo of
Kerry Walser and
Melissa Sconone combined for an incredible 17 points as the Pride defeated Elon, 17-7, on Sunday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Walser had a career-high seven goals and two assists for a career-high nine points, while Sconone tallied a goal and a career-high seven assists for a career-high eight points.
The seven goals by Walser are the most by a Pride player since Alyssa Parrella had 10 against Villanova on March 13, 2021. The seven assists by Sconone are a program record for the Pride's CAA era (since 2002).
Hofstra won its third straight game and improved to 6-4 and 3-0 in CAA play. It is the program's best CAA start since 2015.
Elon dropped to 5-6 and 1-2 in the league.
Hofstra opened the game with three consecutive goals, including two from
Taylor Mennella to start and led 3-0 with 9:29 left in the first quarter. Elon would even the score before the end of the quarter, but the Pride was able to take a one-goal lead into the second quarter as
Kate Fiola scored with 12 seconds remaining in the opening 15 minutes.
The goal from Fiola started an incredible string of 11 consecutive Pride goals spanning the first, second, and third quarters as Hofstra pushed the lead to 14-3 with 11:17 left in the third quarter. Walser was unstoppable during the run as she had five goals during the 11-0 run, including four straight at one point.
After Elon got to within nine later in the third quarter, Hofstra put the finishing touches on another rout with three straight goals, including two more from Walser.
Taylor Mennella finished with five points on three goals and two assists, while
Kristen Redding had her first career hat trick with four goals. Fiola added three points (1 G, 2 A), along with five ground balls.
Luchianna Cardello made 13 saves in the contest.
Mackenzie Coleman had three points (2 G, 1 A) for Elon, while Anna Hackett added a goal and two assists and Kaitlyn Michaud chipped in with two goals.
Hofstra heads on the road for its next game as the Pride will take on Towson on Saturday, March 30 at 3 p.m. That game will air on Lacrosse TV.

- Hofstra is 5-3 all-time against Elon. The Pride has won four straight in the series.

Taylor Mennella continued her ascent up the Hofstra record books. She moved into 11th place all-time in goals (106), ninth all-time in assists (57), and ninth all-time in points (163).
- Walser's previous career-high of five goals was most recently achieved on Friday against William & Mary, while her previous career-high of six points was also achieved on Friday.
- Sconone's previous career-high of five assists was established against High Point on March 23, 2023, while playing for North Carolina. Her previous career-high of five points was most recently achieved at Connecticut on March 12 of this season.
