Hofstra Drops Series Finale To Northeastern

Hempstead, NY - Luke Masiuk and Will Kennedy each drove in a pair of runs, but Northeastern jumped out to an early lead and went on to post a 13-5 victory over Hofstra in the rubber game of a Coastal Athletic Association series at University Field Sunday.

Hofstra slipped to 7-15 overall and 1-2 in the CAA with the loss, while the Huskies moved to 16-6 overall and 2-1 in league play.

Northeastern sent nine men to the plate in a five-run first inning. Mike Sirota had an RBI single, while Alex Lane drove in a pair of runs with a double and scored on a wild pitch. Carmelo Musacchia drove in the fifth run with a sacrifice fly.

The Pride got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Dylan Palmer led off with a single and went to third on a two-hit base hit from Steve Harrington. The Pride then pulled off the double steal with Harrington taking second and Palmer scoring from third.

Northeastern would score single runs on wild pitches in the second and third innings to build a 7-1 lead before the Pride got two runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-run double from Kennedy that scored Alex McCoy, who had doubled, and Masiuk, who was hit by a pitch.

A four-run fourth and another run in the fifth made it a 12-3 game for the Huskies. Masiuk hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 12-5 game but that was the last runs the Pride would get. Northeastern tacked on a run in the eighth to cap the scoring.

Huskies starter Wyatt Scotti (4-2) allowed five runs on seven hits over six innings before giving way to Aiven Cabral, who allowed a hit over the final three innings for his second save. Luke Beckstein, Sirota and Lane each had two hits for the Huskies.

Cade Henry (0-2) started and took the loss for Hofstra, allowing six runs on four hits over 1 ⅔ innings. Harrington had a pair of hits for the Pride.

Hofstra is back in action Tuesday when it welcomes Seton Hall to University Field for a 3 p.m. game.
