Kerry Walser tied her career-highs in goals and points with five and six, respectively, while also adding six draw controls to lead the Hofstra women's lacrosse team to a 13-6 rout of William & Mary on Friday evening at James M. Shuart Stadium.
Trinity Reed keyed the dominating effort in draw controls as she posted a career-best eight as the Pride held a 15-8 advantage in that category.
Walser's hat trick was her fourth this season and the 11th of her career.
Taylor Mennella and
Melissa Sconone each had four points on two goals and two assists to assist on the offensive end. It was another strong game for
Christine Dannenfelser, who had a season-high five ground balls and added a season-high-tying two caused turnovers.
The win moved Hofstra to 5-4 overall and a perfect 2-0 in CAA play. It is the Pride's first 2-0 league start since 2019. William & Mary dropped to 4-6 and 0-1 in conference action.
Sconone got the scoring started with her 19th tally of the season just under three minutes into the game. With the score knotted at one, the Pride would score three straight, including two from Walser, to open up a 4-1 lead in the second quarter. The Pride would take a two-goal lead into the halftime break as after the lead grew to 6-2 following a goal from
Megan Flannery, the Tribe scored the final two goals of the opening stanza to close the gap.
The Pride left no doubt in the third quarter as Hofstra scored seven goals in the quarter and held William & Mary scoreless to lead 13-4 heading into the final 15 minutes. Walser scored three of the Pride's goals during the run, while Mennella and Sconone each tallied a goal and an assist as the Pride opened up the nine-goal lead. The Pride took just four shots in the fourth quarter as they took their foot off the gas with the large lead and would go on to earn the seven-goal victory.
Lauren Coletti added two goals for the Pride, which also got two ground balls and two caused turnovers from
Kate Fiola. Reed added three ground balls.
Luchianna Cardello made seven saves in net and added two ground balls.
Kate Draddy and Paige Gilbert each had two goals for William & Mary. Marin Wilhelm made 15 saves for the Tribe.
