Sam Lutfi and
Vincent McDermott each had a pair of goals, while
Rory Jones,
Colton Rudd,
Justin Sykes, and
John Madsen scored one each but it wasn't enough to top nationally-ranked Rutgers, who posted a 13-8 win over the Pride on Saturday afternoon at SHI Stadium.
With the loss, Hofstra dropped to 3-3, while No. 16 Rutgers improved to 4-1.
Rutgers scored the first two goals of the game five minutes into the first quarter, following with two more within a minute of each other, and with less than five minutes left to play in the quarter. McDermott scored two of his own unassisted, while
Justin Sykes scored his tenth of the season with an assist by
Sam Lutfi to end the first quarter with Rutgers leading 4-3.
The home team then scored five consecutive goals to open a 9-3 lead over the Pride in the second quarter.
Rory Jones netted one with
Griffin Turner getting the assist with 1:05 to play in the second. Rutgers added one final goal with seven seconds left before half, improving to 10-4.
Colton Rudd scored his first of the season late in the third, while
Sam Lutfi scored two consecutive goals within eight seconds of each other, bringing the deficit to 12-7.
John Madsen scored an unassisted goal with 14:44 remaining in the game for a final score of 13-8. Madsen's goal would be the only one in the final fifteen minutes.
Colin Kurdyla finished with three goals for Rutgers, while Ross Scott had two goals and three assists.
Sean Henderson made 12 saves for the Pride.
Chase Patterson won 15 of 22 faceoffs and collected eight ground balls.Â
