Hofstra Falls To Manhattan In Series Finale

Hempstead, NY - Manhattan's Vincent Davis was 2-4 with a home run and four RBIs and starter Noah Mattera allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings as the Jaspers downed Hofstra, 8-2, Sunday at University Field. The win gave Manhattan the series victory over the Pride.

Hofstra slipped to 6-11 on the season with the loss, while Manhattan improved to 6-12.

Hofstra scored a first inning run as Dylan Palmer led off the game with an infield single and moved to third on a double from Santino Rosso. Following a walk and an infield popup, Luke Masiuk delivered a sacrifice fly to center to put the Pride on the board.

The Jaspers went ahead with two runs in the second on a Dylan Mayer RBI single and a Daniel Perez sacrifice fly and then tacked on three in the third courtesy of Davis' home run to center. Manhattan would add single runs in the fifth, sixth, and eighth innings.

Hofstra got its second run in the sixth on Tanner Sanderoff's first career hit, a single to right that scored Masiuk, who had led off the frame with a single and went to second on a wild pitch.

Mattera (3-1) struck out three and walked three over his six innings. Jack Mahoney threw the final three innings, allowing two hits and a walk, to earn his first save.

Hofstra starter Carlos Martinez (1-3) was charged with six runs on six hits over 4 ⅔ innings. Palmer had three hits on the day and scored a run, while Masiuk had two hits, a run, and an RBI.

The Pride is back in action Tuesday at Columbia with a 3 p.m. start time.

Notes:
-Sanderoff's RBI was the first of his career as well.
-Mike McKenna threw two scoreless and hitless innings with four strikeouts.
-Martinez struck out eight batters, matching his season and career highs.
-Palmer's three-hit game was his 10th multi-hit performance of the season.
