Hofstra Picks Up Win At Campbell In CAA Opener

Buies Creek, NC - Melissa Sconone scored four goals, while Taylor Mennella and Kerry Walser each had three as Hofstra defeated Campbel, 13-10,l in a CAA game at Barker-Lane Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Pride outscored the Camels, 8-3, over the second and third quarters.

The Pride evened their record at 4-4 and moved to 1-0 in the CAA with the win. Campbell, which was playing its first-ever CAA contest, slipped to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in league play. 

Trailing 4-2 after one quarter, the Pride would outscore the Camels by a 4-1 margin in the second to take an 6-5 lead at the half. Mennella scored back-to-back goals to start the period, tying the score with her 100th career goal. After Ally Heath notched her 20th goal of the season to put the Camels back on top, Lauren Coletti and Sconone closed out the quarter with goals to send the Pride into the locker room up by a goal. 

Campbell would tie the score at six 2:17 into the third quarter before Hofstra would take command by scoring the next four goals of the third to build a 10-6 lead. Mennella would complete the hat trick with the final goal of the run. The Pride would lead 13-8 following Walser's third goal of the game with 2:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Campbell's Joslin Hanbury would tally a pair of goals in the final 1:42 to account for the final score. 

Luchianna Cardello made 13 saves for the Pride, while Natalie Mellen had six stops for Campbell. 

Hofstra received a goal and two assists from Kristen Redding, who also tied for team-high honors with three ground balls. Trinity Reed also picked up three ground balls. Coletti finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Hanbury had four goals and two assists for the Camels, while Heath and Lexi Goff added two goals each.

Notes: 
-Mennella became the 15th 100-goal scorer in program history. 
-Mennella also moved into 10th place on the career points list with 154.
-Cardello's 13 saves are a season-high.
-Sconone has nine goals in her last two games.
-The hat tricks were Mennella's fourth of the season and Walser's third.
-Hofstra is 1-0 all-time against Campbell.
-Each team had 28 shots.
