Strong Offensive Showing Backs O'Hanlon Gem As Hofstra Drops Manhattan

Hempstead, NY - Michael O'Hanlon tossed 8 ⅓ innings of one-run ball to pick up his first win of the season and the Pride offense struck for nine runs as Hofstra defeated Manhattan, 9-1, Friday afternoon in the opening game of a three-game series at University Field. Hofstra won its second consecutive game and moved to 6-9 on the season.

Hofstra struck in the bottom of the first as Dylan Palmer led off by reaching second on a dropped infield pop up. He moved to third on a grounder to the right side and then scored on Alex McCoy's single up the middle for a 1-0 lead. The Jaspers (4-12) would tie the score in the fourth as Vincent Davis singled home Drew Wyers.

However, Hofstra broke the tie with a three-run bottom of the fourth. With two outs and runners on second and third, Palmer sent a single through the right side that drove in both runs. Santino Rosso followed with a double to the gap in left center that allowed Palmer to score for a 4-1 lead. The Pride would break the game open in the sixth, scoring five times. Rosso added another RBI double, while Luke Masiuk delivered a two-run double.

O'Hanlon (1-1) allowed one run on six hits with seven strikeouts in his outing before yielding to Joseph Curreri, who allowed a single before striking out the final two batters.

Rosso finished with three doubles on the day, McCoy was 2-3 with three stolen bases, and Palmer drove in three runs and scored three runs from the leadoff position.

Hofstra and Manhattan continue the series Saturday at 1 p.m.
