Pride Wins Third Straight Game With Road Victory

Hampton, VA - Tyler Thomas had another outstanding game with 28 points to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a 63-59 win over Hampton on Thursday evening at the Convocation Center.

Darlinstone Dubar was also in double figures for the Pride with 16 points.

The win was Hofstra's third straight and moves the Pride's record to 14-10 overall and 7-4 in league play. Hampton fell to 5-19 and 0-11 in conference.

Hofstra faced as much as a six-point deficit in the opening 20 minutes and would still trail 27-22 with 1:25 to play before closing the half strong. Thomas drained a three-pointer with 1:03 to play to close the gap to two and then Jaquan Carlos would send the game into the intermission tied at 27 as he hit a jump shot with eight ticks left on the clock.

Early on in the second half, the Pride used a 16-6 run to take a 43-35 lead following a three-pointer from Thomas with 14:39 left in regulation. The Pirates clawed back, though, and would take a six-point lead at 57-51 with 6:33 to play.

Hofstra would flex its muscle down the stretch as the Pride scored 10 straight, culminating with a basket from Dubar with 2:01 left to earn a 61-57 lead. Silas Sunday gave the Pride the lead for good at the 3:48 mark with one of his two field goals in the contest. Hofstra would add a pair of free throws with seven seconds left to account for the final score as Hampton had several empty possessions in the final minute-plus.

The Pride post players combined for 13 points and 15 rebounds as Jacco Fritz had nine points and eight rebounds and Sunday contributed four points and seven rebounds.

Joshua Lusane led Hampton with 13 points and Ja'Von Benson had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Hofstra continues its current two-game road trip at North Carolina A&T on Saturday. Game time in Greensboro is scheduled for 2 p.m.
