Tapia Places To Lead Hofstra At Edinboro Open

Edinboro, PA - Noah Tapia placed sixth at 149 pounds and Alex Turley (141) and Frank Volpe (157) advanced to the quarterfinals at their weight classes at the Edinboro Open Saturday.Hofstra picked up 15 victories on the day.

Tapia won four matches and battled back through the consolation bracket to reach the 5th place match. Due to competition limits for his opponent, Amonn Ohl, the match was ruled a no contest and both wrestlers were awarded sixth place. Turley picked up two wins in the championship bracket before dropping his quarterfinal match, while Volpe did the same. The Pride freshman added another victory in the consolation round to finish with three wins on the day. 

Hofstra returns to action on Friday when it hosts Binghamton in an EIWA dual match at 6 p.m. at the Mack Physical Education Center. The match is Hofstra's final home match of the season and the Pride will celebrate Senior Night prior to the match. 

Notes:
-Volpe earned his first official collegiate wins as he competed attached at the event
-Gavin Proffitt won his first official match as well.
-Tapia placed at a tournament for the second time this season.
