Hofstra Downs Liberty To Collect Series Win

Lynchburg, VA - Hofstra jumped out to a 7-0 lead and went on to post a 12-6 victory over Liberty Sunday afternoon at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The win gave Hofstra the series win over the Flames. Hofstra moved to 2-4 with the win, while Liberty slipped to 4-3.

The Pride scored three times in the first inning as Dylan Palmer and Santino Rosso had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Palmer would come home on a passed ball and after a pair of walks loaded the bases, Will Kennedy drove in a run with a single and Luke Masiuk delivered a sacrifice fly. 

Rosso added to the Hofstra lead with a solo home run in the third and the Pride tacked on three more runs in the fourth with Steve Harrington knocking in two with a single. Liberty got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before the Pride got those runs back in the sixth on a bases loaded walk to Rosso and a double play that plated a run.

Hofstra got single runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, scoring on a wild pitch, a Harrington single, and a bases loaded walk to Michael Brown. The Flames would score four runs over the final three innings. 

Hofstra starter Carlos Martinez (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one run on two hits over 3 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. Liberty starter Bryce Dolby (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on six hits over 3 2/3 innings. 

Palmer, who extended his hitting streak to 15 games dating back to last season, had three hits and three runs scored. Harrington had two hits and three RBIs, while Rosso had two hits, three runs, and two RBIs. 

Cam Foster had two RBIs for Liberty, 

Hofstra returns to action Friday in the opening game of a four-game series at New Mexico. 

Notes:
-Hofstra is 4-5 all-time against Liberty.
-Brown's RBI was the first of his career as the freshman went 1-3 with two runs and two walks.
-The Pride stole seven bases including two from Masiuk.
-Hofstra pitching recorded 10 strikeouts.
