Hofstra Falls at Home to Charleston

Hempstead, NY – Visiting Charleston opened up an early double-digit lead over the Hofstra women's basketball team and never looked back as the Pride dropped an 88-59 contest to the Cougars Friday evening from inside the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
 
Hofstra's record now sits at 9-15 and 3-10 in the CAA following Friday's defeat. Charleston, meanwhile, improves to 18-6 and 10-3 in league play.
 
Sorelle Ineza and Emma Von Essen both finished in double figures for Hofstra, with Ineza posting a team-high 15 points and Von Essen tallying 11 against the Cougars. Brooke Anya paced the Pride with seven rebounds while contributing eight points, and Ally Knights was credited with six assists and four points.
 
Trailing by 16 after a 27-11 first quarter in favor of Charleston, Hofstra closed the gap to 11 with a three from Ineza and an Anya fast break layup at the 5:16 mark, but Charleston ballooned its lead to 19 with a 9-1 run lasting from after the 5:10 media timeout until 49 seconds on the clock remained. A pair of Knights free throws to end the half set the score at 41-24 in favor of the Cougars.
 
Charleston's lead grew to as large as 28 points by the end of the third quarter, and the guest's advantage upped to a game-high 31 points before the final buzzer sounded from the Mack Sports Complex.
 
Charleston had five players finish in double figures, with Jada Logan topping the group with 24 points.
 
Hofstra hits the road for its next CAA game; a 2 p.m. contest on Sunday at Campbell in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
 
NOTES:
-Ineza has finished in double figures for the sixth consecutive game.
-With three three-pointers against Charleston, Von Essen has 72 threes on the year, placing her eighth for the most three-pointers in a season in Hofstra women's basketball history. She needs two threes to move into seventh ahead of Ana Hernandez Gil (74, 2018-19).
-Hofstra is now 9-10 all-time versus Charleston. The Cougars have won four of the last five meetings against the Pride.
