Rosso's Eighth Inning Homer Lifts Hofstra Past Liberty

Lynchburg, VA - Santino Rosso's two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning snapped a 7-7 tie and propelled Hofstra to a 9-7 victory over Liberty Friday evening at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium. The Flames had erased a 7-1 deficit to set up Rosso's heroics.

Hofstra moved to 1-3 on the season, while Liberty slipped to 3-2.

The Pride score two runs in the top of the first, one in the third, and four more in the fourth to build the six-run lead. Alex McCoy delivered the big hit in the fourth with a three-run home run that made it a 7-1 game.

The Flames chipped away at the lead, scoring four times in the fourth and once in the fifth and sixth to tie the score on Tanner Marsh's RBI double.

In the decisive eighth, Dylan Palmer drew a two-out walk and Rosso followed with his second home run of the season, a blast to straight away center. Winning pitcher Danny Kelleher (1-0) and closer Mike McKenna made the lead hold as Kelleher finished with two scoreless frames and McKenna retired all five batters he faced to notch the save.

Dylan Mathiesen (0-1) took the loss after allowing both eighth inning runs.

Hofstra and Liberty continue the series Saturday at 2 p.m.
