Hofstra Holds Off Siena For Second Consecutive Win

Hempstead, NY - John Madsen had five goals, while Colton Rudd added a one goal and three assists as Hofstra held off Siena, 14-12, in a back-and-forth game at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday afternoon. The Pride held Siena scoreless in the fourth quarter and added an insurance goal in the final two minutes to get the win.

Hofstra (3-1) won for the second consecutive game, while Siena slipped to 0-2 on the season.

The Saints scored first, 1:04 into the game, before Rory Jones evened the score 1:26 later. The teams would alternate goals before Madsen put the Pride ahead 3-2 with 2:14 on the clock of an assist from JT Roselle. But Siena would tie the score just over a minute later as the teams were deadlocked at three following the opening stanza.

The teams would trade goals to end up at 7-7 with 4:32 remaining in the half before Jones, Ryan Woodland, and Justin Sykes strung three goals together to give Hofstra a 10-7 lead at the half. After Woodland's goal made it 9-7, it marked the first lead for either team of more than one goal.

Madsen would score all three of Hofstra's goals in the third quarter, with his third giving the Pride a 13-10 advantage with 7:45 to play in the stanza. But Caden Olmstead, who also had three goals in the quarter for Siena, scored the final two to make it a one-goal game going into the fourth quarter.

That is when the Hofstra defense and goalkeeper Sean Henderson stepped up. The defense limited the Saints to five shots and Henderson made three clutch saves with the lead on the line as the Pride kept Siena off the scoreboard. Madsen would cap off his afternoon with an insurance goal from Rudd with 1:37 to play.

Henderson finished with seven saves on the day. Chase Patterson had 13 ground balls and won 19-30 face-offs. Madsen would add five ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Pratt Reynolds led Siena with four goals, while Olmstead had three. Ryan McCarthy had three assists to pace the Saints, while Andrew Arcuri and R.J. Ihlefeld had a team-best five ground balls. Arcuri made 12 saves in goal.
