Drexel Rallies To Defeat Hofstra; Win Streak Ends At Four

Philadelphia, PA - Tyler Thomas was spectacular with 34 points, but Drexel rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit in defeating the Hofstra men's basketball team, 79-77, on Thursday evening at the Daskalaskis Athletic Center.

It was Thomas's fourth 30-point game this season.

The Pride saw its four-game win streak come to an end as Hofstra dropped to 15-11 and 8-5 in CAA play. Drexel improved to 16-10 and 9-4 in conference play.

Hofstra led by 12 less than five minutes into the game, holding a 19-7 advantage following a three-pointer from Khalil Farmer with 15:11 showing on the clock. The Dragons closed the gap to four, before Hofstra pushed the lead back to as many as 13 later in the half. Drexel made the score 39-32 with just under two minutes left in the opening stanza before Thomas drained a three-pointer with 47 seconds left to account for the halftime lead.

A 19-8 run out of the intermission allowed Drexel to earn a 51-50 lead with 13:18 left in regulation. Back-to-back baskets from Thomas would push the lead back to five for the Pride, 62-57, with 8:08 left.

A 9-0 Dragon run would change the game as Drexel turned a 64-59 deficit into a 68-64 advantage with 5:39 left on the second half clock. Drexel would stay in front but Hofstra would give the home team all it could handle down the stretch. Down four with less than 20 seconds left, Thomas closed the gap to one with a three-pointer. After Drexel made one of two free throws, Thomas would have one final shot to earn the victory but a three-pointer from the corner in front of the Hofstra bench was off the mark.

Thomas added game-highs of six rebounds and six assists in the contest for the Pride, which also got 11 points from Jacco Fritz

Jamie Bergens led Drexel with 16 points and Amari Williams added 14 points and six rebounds for the Dragons.
