Hempstead, NY -
Jean Aranguren had his second double-double of the season with 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, but the shorthanded Hofstra men's basketball team dropped a 60-42 decision to Temple on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The Pride played without starters
Cruz Davis and
Jaquan Sanders.
The loss ended Hofstra's 11-game home court win streak, which ranked as the 17th-longest in the nation coming into the game.
Silas Sunday tallied a career-best 11 rebounds in the game and added five points and a career-high-tying three blocked shots.
Hofstra slipped to 8-4 with the loss, which ended a three-game winning streak for the Pride. Temple improved to 6-4 after winning for the third time in its last four games.
KiJan Robinson and
Khalil Farmer made their first career starts for the Pride in the contest. Robison had nine points in 35 minutes of action, while Farmer tallied two points in 26 minutes.
Jamal Mashburn Jr. had 12 points to lead Temple, while Quante Berry added 10 points and five rebounds for the Owls.
Following the break for final exams, Hofstra will return to action on Sunday, December 29 when it travels to Quinnipiac for a 1 p.m. contest. That game will pit two head coaches who are quite familiar with each other as Hofstra Head Coach
Speedy Claxton will oppose former Hofstra head coach and former Hofstra assistant coach Tom Pecora. Pecora served as an assistant coach for Hofstra from 1994 to 2001 and was the program's head coach from 2001 to 2010.
