Hofstra Starts Quest For Fourth Consecutive CAA Championship Thursday

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University men's soccer team, ranked No. 18 in the nation, begins its postseason journey Thursday when it takes on fifth-seeded Charleston in the first round of the Coastal Athletic Association Championship at Elon's Rudd Field. The fourth-seeded and three-time defending champion Pride enters the game with an 11-4-2 record and is coming off a 4-0 win over Delaware this past Saturday night in the regular season finale. Hofstra received goals from Laurie Goddard, Thengill Orrason, Aleksei Armas, and Teddy Baker in the victory that locked up a CAA Championship berth. Pierce Infuso had two assists, while Goddard, Orrason, Daniele Mastroianni, and Sean O'Donnell each had one. Filippo Dadone made three saves in 68 minutes before Gino Cervoni came on to record two saves in the final 22 and preserve the shutout.

Charleston is making its first CAA Championship appearance since 2017 and enters the tournament with a 10-5-2 record. The Cougars dropped their regular season finale, 5-1, to Drexel but are 3-1-1 in their last five outings. Included in that is a 3-1 win over the Pride on October 26..

Hofstra is 5-2-3 all-time against the Cougars, but this will be the first meeting in the postseason between the teams. Hofstra is a seven-time CAA champion and has won the last three titles. The Pride is 20-7-6 all-time in CAA Championship play and have won eight consecutive games. Hofstra is 11-0-3 in its last 14 CAA Championship contests. 

The winner of Thursday's game advances to play top-seeded Elon Sunday at 2 p.m.
