Jean Aranguren poured in a career-high 25 points and fellow sophomore
Cruz Davis added 19 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds as the Hofstra men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for an 89-62 win over SUNY Old Westbury in the season opener on Monday evening at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Aranguren was a stellar 10-15 from the field, while Davis had no turnovers in his nearly 30 minutes of action.
The Pride placed a total of five players in double figures as junior

KiJan Robinson (10) joined Aranguren and Davis in double figures.
Hofstra scored the final six points of the opening half to send the teams to the break knotted at 34. The Pride would continue its run after halftime as the home team scored the first 15 points of the second stanza to open up a commanding 15-point advantage, 49-34, with 15:39 left following a three-pointer from Aranguren. In total it was a 21-0 run for the Pride spanning the halves.
The Pride took as much as a 29-point lead in the contest as a basket from Robinson with 2:56 remaining made it 84-55.
Robinson tallied his first career double-double as he added a career-best 10 rebounds in the contest. In fact, it was six more rebounds than he had in any game during his freshman campaign.
Amadi Lee-Kane led the Panthers with 11 points, while Jaden Flemming added 10 points and six rebounds.

- Hofstra improved to 3-0 all-time against SUNY Old Westbury. The previous meetings occurred during the 2008-09 and 2022-23 seasons.
- Hofstra upped its all-time record in season openers to 52-37.
- The Pride has won 24 consecutive games against non-Division I opponents.
- Aranguren's previous career-high of 22 points came against Colgate on December 21, 2023 while playing for Iona.
- Robinson's previous career-high of four rebounds most recently occurred at Campbell on January 13, 2024.
