Hofstra Blanks Delaware To Secure CAA Championship Spot

Hempstead, NY - Facing a win and in scenario for a Coastal Athletic Association Championship berth, the No. 24 Hofstra men's soccer team responded in a big way as the Pride matched their season high with four goals in a 4-0 victory over Delaware. The victory clinched a spot in the CAA Championship for Hofstra, which will be the No. 4 seed. Laurie Goddard and Thengill Orrason were among the offensive stars for the Pride, each collecting a goal and an assist in the game. 

Hofstra finishes the regular season with a 11-4-2 record overall and a 5-3-0 mark in the CAA. Delaware sees its season end with a 7-7-2 record overall and 2-6-0 in league play.

The Pride dominated play from the opening kickoff, controlling possession for much of the early going. Goddard put Hofstra on the board at the 15:47 mark with assists from Orrason and Pierce Infuso. Just over three minutes later, Orrason notched his first collegiate goal with Goddard and Infuso notching assists. Aleksei Armas made it a 3-0 game 24 seconds before halftime with his first Hofstra goal, a screamer from 20 yards out off a pass from Daniele Mastroianni. Teddy Baker closed out the scoring at the 58:46 mark with a shot from just outside the 18-yard box after getting a pass from Sean O'Donnell

Hofstra keeper Filippo Dadone made three saves in 67:59 of action. He yielded to Gino Cervoni for the final 22:01 with the junior keeper collecting a pair of saves in his first collegiate appearance. 

Delaware keeper Adam Vik made four saves, while Mikey Johnson had four shots with three on goal. 

The game was also senior night for the Pride with 10 seniors - Baker, Infuso, Dadone, Mylo Hall, Roc Carles, Jacob Woznicki, Logan D'Aoust, Jack O'Malley, Gabriel Pacheco, and Eoin Farrell - recognized before kickoff.

Hofstra will face No. 5 Charleston in the opening round of the CAA Championship Thursday evening at Elon. Kickoff from Rudd Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Notes:
-Hofstra is 25-13-2 all-time against Delaware.
-Goddard's goal was his sixth of the season and the assist was his team-best fifth.
-Infuso has assists in three consecutive games.
-Dadone was subbed out for the first time this season, having played 1507:59 out of 1530 minutes. 
-O'Donnell picked up his first career assist. 
-Hofstra had a 17-10 shot advantage and a 7-1 lead in corner kicks. 
-The Pride also scored four goals at American and Drexel. 
-Hofstra will be making its 13th consecutive CAA Championship appearance.
-The Pride is 7-0-1 at home in 2024.
