Seventh-Seeded Hofstra Hosts Vermont Sunday Night In NCAA Second Round

| By:
Hempstead, NY - Seeded for the second time in program history, the No. 7 Hofstra University men's soccer team will host Vermont in the second round of the NCAA Championship Sunday night at Captains Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. The game will stream live on ESPN+ with live statistics and an audio only broadcast on WRHU-FM (88.7) also available. Links for all can be found on the men's soccer schedule page on GoHofstra.com.

Tickets are available by visiting HofstraTickets.com. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the Captains Field Box Office beginning one hour before game time. Prices are $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens, students with ID cards, and children 12 and under.

Hofstra, the four-time reigning CAA Champions, earns its highest-ever seed after getting the 14th-seed last season. The Pride will be hosting a second round contest for the second consecutive season and enters the game with a 14-4-2 record and a four-game winning streak. Hofstra defeated UNCW, 1-0, in the CAA title following an own goal. Hofstra became the first team in CAA history to win four consecutive conference championships.

The Pride is playing in their ninth NCAA Tournament and their fourth in a row. Hofstra is 6-7-1 all-time in NCAA play and is 4-1 at home.

Vermont, the champions of the America East, enters Sunday with a record of 12-2-5 and is coming off a 5-0 victory over Iona in the first round Thursday night. It was the Catamounts third consecutive victory as Yaniv Bazini scored two second half goals to extend a 1-0 halftime lead.

Hofstra and Vermont were members of the America East together from 1995 to 2001 and have played 12 times with Hofstra holding a 6-5-1 lead in the series. The Pride has won the last two meetings, including a 4-0 victory at home the last time the teams played in 2015.

The winner of Sunday's game will advance to the NCAA third round and face the winner of the No. 10 Duke-San Diego matchup. Hofstra would host that game next weekend, while Duke would host if Vermont was victorious.
