Hempstead, NY – In the final game of the Coastal Athletic Association for the Hofstra field hockey team, the Pride suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Northeastern.
Teresa Karoff scored the lone goal for the hosts as the Pride ends its CAA schedule with a 2-4 record, while the loss puts Hofstra's overall record at 4-14.
Northeastern (12-6, 5-1 CAA) weathered an early surge from the Pride to open the first quarter before putting themselves in front on an unassisted goal by Lara Taylor at 9:59 after a rebound off a save by
Pieke Roos, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. The guests added to their lead with a forceful goal into the top right corner by Emilia Adragna off a long pass from Maria Armaganian at 7:48 in the second quarter.
Hofstra clawed back to within one of the Huskies with a third quarter goal by Karoff, finishing off a pass from
Jamie Mc Millan past Northeastern keeper Kristi Merashoff with 3:22 remaining in the third quarter. Unfortunately, Northeastern reasserted its two-goal advantage over the Pride with a second goal from Adragna just one minute following Karoff's tally, putting the score at 3-1.
Roos made eight saves against the Huskies, with six of her stops coming in the fourth quarter.
Hofstra concludes its regular season on Sunday, November 3, with a noon contest against Vermont.
NOTES:
-The goal was Karoff's fifth of the season, and the assist was the first this season for Mc Millan.
-Hofstra was outshot, 16-8, by Northeastern. Mc Millan and
Camryn Stewart led the Pride with two shots each.
-The Pride's all-time record against Northeastern now stands at 7-23.
