No. 14/No. 8 Hofstra Tripped Up At Drexel

Philadelphia, PA - Dominick Bachstein's second goal of the game at 75:56 snapped a 3-3 tie and the Dragons would add a fifth goal 2:41 later as Drexel held off No. 14/No. 8 Hofstra, 5-4, in a Coastal Athletic Association game Saturday at Vidas Field. Jacob Woznicki had a goal and an assist for the Pride. 

Hofstra moved to 8-2-1 on the season and 3-2 in the CAA. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Pride. Drexel is 6-4 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Dragons have won two consecutive games.

The teams traded goals in the first half with Eoin Farrell scoring a penalty kick goal for the Pride 8:41 into the contest. Drexel answered at 21:01 as Omar Jallow converted a pass from Bachstein for a 1-1 tie, The deadlock would last for 5:46 before Woznicki set up Laurie Goddard for a 2-1 Hofstra lead. Drexel would then score two quick goals, one from Bachstein (35:25) and one from Patrick Short (36:02) to take a 3-2 lead into the break.

Woznicki swung the momentum back to the Pride with his team-leading sixth goal of the season at 69:26. However, the Dragons would snatch it right back with goals from Bachstein at 75:56 and Giancarlo Vaccaro at 78:37 to take a 5-3 lead. Daniele Mastroianni pulled the Pride within one with his first goal of the season at the 82:10 mark. But the Drexel defense was up to the task the rest of the way, preserving the upset.

Hofstra returns to Philadelphia Tuesday night for a matchup against No 25 Penn at 7 p.m.

-Drexel leads the all-time series 29-23-12.
-Mylo Hall had an assist on Mastroianni's goal, his second in as many games.
-Drexel keeper Alessandro Gapogna made three saves, while Hofstra keeper Filippo Dadone made two.
-Hofstra held a 14-13 shot advantage,
-The five goals were the most allowed in a game by Hofstra since a 6-0 loss at No. 22 Charlotte on August 29, 2016.
