No. 4 Hofstra Faces No. 5 Delaware Thursday In CAA Championship

Hempstead, NY - The Hofstra University women's soccer team, seeded fourth, takes on fifth-seeded Delaware in the opening round of the Coastal Athletic Association Championship Thursday (Oct. 31) at 4 p.m. The game will take place at Monmouth's Hesse Field on The Great Lawn in West Long Branch, New Jersey, and will be live streamed on FloCollege. Hofstra (7-4-6) is making its eighth consecutive CAA Championship appearance and the 21st in program history. The Pride has won eight CAA titles, the last in 2022. Hofstra enters the championship off a 3-2 loss to top-seeded Monmouth in the regular season finale. Emma Johnson and Millie Davies scored for the Pride. Delaware (6-6-6) has tied its last three outings with two scoreless draws and a 1-1 tie with Northeastern in the regular season finale. 

The teams met in the regular season with the Blue Hens posting a 2-1 victory in Newark, Delaware. Maggie Groh scored the game-winner with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation. Mathilde Braithwaite had the Hofstra goal with Gabriella Marte and Dagny Run Petursdottir getting assists.

Overall, Hofstra owns a 23-8-2 record against Delaware. The teams have met four times in the CAA Championship with the Pride holding a 3-1 advantage. 

The winner of Thursday's game moves on to face top-seeded Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m.
