Wilmington, NC -
Yagmur Cinel had a season and match-high 13 kills and
Iyanna Garvin was tremendous with nine kills (.529 attack percentage) and six blocks to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a four-set win over UNCW on Sunday afternoon at Hanover Hall.
The win was the Pride's ninth consecutive victory. It is the 12th-longest win streak in program history and the longest since a 12-match win streak in 2022.
Izadora Stedile had another strong contest for the Pride with a match-high 20 digs to go along with nine kills and three service aces.
Beatriz Alves posted her first double-double since August 31 with 30 assists and 11 digs for Hofstra.
The win kept the Pride in first place in the CAA as Hofstra improved to 13-6 and 9-1 in CAA play. UNCW dropped to 5-12 and 2-8 in conference action. Set scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, and 25-19.
As they did on Saturday, the Pride split the first two sets before taking over the match down the stretch and earning fairly easy wins in the third and fourth sets of the match. The third stanza was the separator as Hofstra hit at a .359 clip in easily dispatching of the Seahawks by eight points. It would be the defense in the final set, though, as UNCW was only able to muster a .045 attack percentage as Hofstra built a huge lead and held on for the six-point win.
Emilly Nunes chipped in with nine kills, while
Clara Bal came off the bench for the final two sets and added eight kills.
Chiara Cucco posted 18 digs in the match.
Marnie Ursem had 11 kills, while Grace Melnick tallied 10 for the Seahawks.
Hofstra returns home to host Delaware next weekend. The Pride will host the Blue Hens on Saturday at 4 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
