Cucco Ties Program’s Single Match Record For Digs In Five-Set Thriller

Hempstead, NY - Senior libero Chiara Cucco eched her name in program lore once again as the fourth-year player tied the program record for digs in a match with 41 in the Pride's 3-2 loss to Delaware on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

Cucco tied the mark originally set by Lena Malinowski on November 20, 1994 and tied by Catherine Durakis on November 6, 2005.

It is the most digs in the CAA this season and the fifth-most in NCAA Division I this year. In addition, it is the most by a CAA player since Towson's Anna Holehouse had 45 against James Madison in 2017.

Hofstra dropped to 13-7 overall and 9-2 with the loss. The defeat ended the Pride's nine-match win streak. Delaware improved to 12-6 and 8-3 in conference action. Set scores were 23-25, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23, and 16-14 in favor of the Blue Hens.

The Pride's Izadora Stedile was incredible once again as she tallied a season-high 20 kills and a career-high-tying 23 digs in the contest. It marked the first time in her career she has tallied at least 20 kills and at least 20 digs in the same contest.

Beatriz Alves had 35 assists and eight digs, while Ellie Pamatat posted 22 assists and five digs. Clara Bal tallied 16 kills for the Pride.

Delaware got 26 kills from Anna Logan Gillens and 20 kills and nine blocks from Kirah Johnson.

Hofstra and Delaware will meet again on Sunday at 2 p.m.

NOTES
- Hofstra is 56-26 all-time against Delaware.
- Cucco's previous career-high in digs was 35 against Elon on November 19, 2021.
