Hempstead, NY –
Teresa Karoff scored her fourth goal of the season just before halftime, but Rider came away with a 3-1 road win over the Hofstra field hockey team in non-conference action from Cindy Lewis Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Hofstra drops to 2-10 on the year following Sunday's loss, and Rider bumps its record to 7-6 with the win.
After a scoreless first quarter that featured five shots from both teams, Rider jumped in front at the 3:08 mark of the second quarter, and they tacked on a second goal with 52 seconds remaining before halftime to make it 2-0. Karoff brought the Pride to within one of the Broncs when she finished off a pass from
Kesia Richardson from close range with one second remaining on the clock, putting the score at 2-1 at the break.
Hofstra outshot Rider 3-1 in a scoreless third quarter. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Rider added on its third and final goal of the contest. Hofstra had opportunities late to pull one back, going up a player after pulling the goalie and after Rider went down to nine players due to cards, but they couldn't beat the compact Rider defense.
Pieke Roos recorded three saves in the first half, while
Tessa Lambright came in for the second half and made two stops in 26:31 of action.
Hofstra faces a quick turnaround when it hosts Yale on Tuesday, October 15, in the second of three consecutive home games. Opening whistle is scheduled for 3 p.m.
