Hempstead, NY – Despite eight saves in the first start of
Tessa Lambright's collegiate career and gutsy play from its defense, the Hofstra field hockey team dropped a thrilling 2-1 overtime decision to visiting Yale in non-conference competition from Cindy Lewis Stadium.
Hofstra's overall record slips to 2-11 with the overtime loss, and Yale improves to 8-4 following the win.
Lambright and the Pride defense kept Yale scoreless for three quarters despite allowing 12 total shots through the first three quarters. Yale broke through the stingy Pride backline at 11:52 of the fourth quarter on a well-executed penalty corner shot by Issy Baileff to go in front 1-0. Hofstra pushed forward and scored the equalizer at the 7:36 mark of the quarter off the stick of
Tara McNally after she deflected a shot sent on frame by
Tess Satterfield.
Yale's winner came from Julia Freedman, who latched onto a saved shot by Lambright with 3:45 remaining in the first overtime period.
Hofstra resumes its conference schedule with a home contest against William & Mary on Friday, October 18, to close out a stretch of three-consecutive home contests. Opening face-off against the Tribe is set for 2 p.m.
